London Callin'

I visited London for the first time in early 2011, at the age of 19 after doing a three month stint in Ecuador and then really dipping my toes in the world of travel by visiting Peru, Spain, Italy & Ireland. I remember it feeling very similar to home after travelling around mostly non-english speaking countries for the best part of 4.5 months. Even after visiting multiple times over the next 7 years, I never really imagined it being a place I would want to live, and yet here I am.

I left Australia on my tier 5 visa one year & 8 months ago, after a tumultuous journey in deciding to move. It was a long time coming, as someone who loves travel, and as of last year had visited 35 countries. I had always wanted to live overseas, but always found a reason to avoid the decision - family, jobs, money, relationships, fear. In early 2019, I finally decided to just take the plunge for better or worse.

Over the past almost 2 years I've learnt a lot about myself, I've made so many new friends (many who have come and gone between lockdowns) and fallen so much more in love with this city in a completely different way than tourist me did almost a decade ago. I've now spent as much of my time in this country in a series of lockdowns & restrictions due to Covid-19, and with my 30th birthday looming under a year,  I'm now taking the time in this bizarre quarantine covid-19 world to both look back at the past year, and beyond to what the future holds. Come along for the ride!
